Updated: March 7, 2022

Exclusion From School:

Student/Staff Members will be excluded from school when meeting one of the scenarios listed below:

  • Any student/staff Member that has at least two of the following symptoms present: fever, chills, rigors (shivers), myalgia (muscle aches), headache, sore throat, nausea or vomiting, diarrhea, fatigue, congestion or runny nose. For students with chronic illness, only new symptoms, or symptoms worse than usual will be used to meet exclusion criteria

  • Any student/staff Member that has at least one of the following symptoms are present and either observed by the school nurse or reported by the parent: cough, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, new olfactory disorder, new taste disorder;

  • Any student/staff Member that has received a positive COVID-19 test result;

  • An unvaccinated student/staff Member has been identified by the school district or health department as a close contact and meets the symptom criteria listed above;

Return to School:

  • A student/staff Member who was excluded from school due to the presence of symptoms or because they were identified as a close contact with symptoms may return the next school day upon the results of a negative COVID-19 test. The test may be taken at any time and results must be provided to the school nurse.  If the individual elects not to be tested, they may return following a five day quarantine period beginning from the date of symptoms or exposure.

  • A student/staff Member who was excluded from school due to a positive test for COVID-19 may return following a five day quarantine period from the date symptoms began or date of positive test if asymptomatic. Symptoms must be concluded for at least 24 hours prior to return at the end of the five days.

Contact Tracing & Notification

  • The school district will continue to partner with the NJDOH and seek guidance as it relates to contact tracing. If a positive case were to occur in our schools, we will follow the protocol for exclusion outlined above and continue to inform close contacts so that families may watch for symptoms. If a student develops symptoms, we would then require them to follow the five (5) day quarantine outlined above.

  • Should the close contact be a family member in the household, the five day quarantine period begins at the end of the positive individuals initial quarantine period. Students may take a test on day five and return to school with a negative result.
