Weekly Trips!

Community Based Instruction provides students in the Multiple Disabilities (MD) program an opportunity to work on their daily living skills outside of their classrooms, through weekly visits to stores and restaurants in the area. Teachers have assessed students using the Assessment of Functional Living Skills (AFLS) and identified areas for growth to promote success and independence in the community. Students work with their teachers, paraprofessionals, related service providers, and their peers to expand on their functional communication and social skills in order to become functioning members of society.
Stop & Shop
Posted on 12/03/2021
Students attended the CBI trip on 12/1/2021 to Stop & Shop to work on a variety of skills. Students used functional communication with their teachers, paraprofessionals, the speech pathologist, and their peers to identify groceries needed in the classroom. Students worked on maneuvering the shopping cart on their own up and down the aisles and making choices independently. At the end of their shopping experience, students were even able to scan, bag, and pay for their groceries. Wonder what they're cooking up?
